It's become Chilliwack's most popular free, outdoor event.
Party in the Park kicks off Friday July 11 — the first of four big summer nights in Central Community Park.
The first PITP of 2014 will see dancers from Creative Outlet get the crowd going starting at five p.m., followed by musical acts: Matthew Cheverie, Cold Chain, Paul Filek, Steve 'Elvis Elite' Elliott, and Big Shiny.
The musicians and entertainers booked for the Chances Community Stage will go live at 5 p.m. and be wrapped up by 10 p.m, said entertainment coordinator Trevor McDonald.
He shared the talent line-up with The Progress this week going over some of the talented acts booked for the Chances Community Stage.
"We've got 25 acts over four nights."
The list is awe-inspiring.
"My vision for this year was bringing it all back home."
The talent is 95 per cent local with connections to the Chilliwack area, "which is awesome," he says. "I always say we don't need to look anywhere but our own backyard for top-tier talent."
Local acts on the first night include local ukulele player Matthew Cheverie, Colin Maxwell and Terry Seekins of Cold Chain, Steve Elliott and some of the guys of Big Shiny, like Dylan Weightman and Andrew Christopher.
"When I asked around who people wanted to see the most this summer, Steve Elliott's name was high on the list. We're thrilled to have him back," said McDonald.
Every single night of PITP (July 11 & 18, August 15 and 22) has something fun for audience members with a range of musical tastes.
"These acts are the best of every genre," said McDonald. "I could have filled another four nights with the incredible talent in the valley."
On July 18, get ready for: No Time Flat, Aerophonics, The Rub, Head Over Heels, and Clarence. On Aug. 15, it's John Welsh Band, Amanda Thate Band, Barefoot, Nikki Werner and Lounge Hounds. Finally on Aug. 22 it's Curbside Jazz, Damian, The Chill-Billies, Todd Richard, Nearly Neil and the Solitary Band.
New this year will be the two acoustic busking stages bracketing each end of Wellington Avenue, with small beers gardens set up outside each venue.
So at the same time as the excitement on the Chances stage, there will be non-stop acoustic performances over on Wellington.
"The idea is people can wander over if they like, grab a bite from a food truck, grab a beverage and enjoy the atmosphere. We're trying to create a flow going down Wellington as well."
Every night on Chances Community Stage, the fun starts with a local dance group. Creative Outlet, Project Dance, Capella, and Evolutionz will be represented this year.
Plus the shows will be "volume friendly" he stressed, and organizers are trying to return PITP to more of a community gathering on Friday nights.
"I don't want people to worry about the noise factor," he said. "People can bring the kids and the grandparents. The demographic is from 5 to 105."
Some of the PITP acts will be carrying on in local pubs and venues afterward, such as Echo Room, Triple Play and the Wellington, as well as Society Gathering House and more.
