Mirrorball Midnight release is the newest single by Hope-raised artist

Jessicka dove into music 12 years ago and hasn’t stopped creating

Jessicka is bursting with ideas, images, songs and movement.

The Hope-raised artist has just released another video, called Mirrorball Midnight, and it encapsulates all of the above. It follows the previous single Gold Jacket and has a Cinderella-style story line, where the artist is awaiting a rescue.

“I’m a bit obsessed with Disney and Cinderella,” she admits, explaining the aesthetics of the video. She dons a fairy tale dress and a massive, wild wig as she whiles away the hours waiting to go to the ball. Instead of a glass slipper, she dons a glass mask.

“I love Sophia Coppola’s (film) Marie Antoinette,” she says. “And that’s why the big hair and crazy dress and all this stupid girly (stuff) I’m obsessed with.”

And while the music itself isn’t for ballroom dancing, it is perfectly suited for the club. It’s been ready for a while, but she held off releasing it until it can be danced to at one.

The mask she wears in the video has nothing to do with COVID-19 or the pandemic. It’s a more artistic statement than that, symbolizing the cage we can put ourselves in.

“Instead of being caged by the stepmother I was caged by myself,” she says.

The glass mask is also a remarkable feature that highlights Jessicka’s own artistic skills. She created it herself out of a glass chandelier she found in a thrift store. In addition to being a gifted singer and songwriter, she is also incredible crafty. One of her other passions is stop motion photography. An example of that is another video on her Youtube channel, called It’s Christmas (Snow is Falling.)

She is an artist who embraces many arts, and weaves them together.

“I came to dance really late,” she explains. “I was about 17 when I started and I was already so far behind. People start when they’re four years old.”

She realized how much music meant to her, and decided to give it a shot.

“I bought a keyboard and sat down and started playing,” she says. That was 12 years ago. In addition to her music, she’s done stop motion video for a Canadian band, and has a cooking show with her husband. Her next step is learning how to direct.

“I’m diving into the visual realm,” she says.

You can find her work on her Youtube channel, on Light Organ Records on Facebook, and Spotify.
