A young Italian classical guitarist is travelling all the way from Europe to Chilliwack to visit a friend, take in the scenic B.C. outdoors and entertain folks with a bit of music.

Filippo Scaramucci is gearing up for his solo recital at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Jan. 19 – it’ll be his first concert outside of his home continent.

“During the concert the audience will experience a journey through European music in a variety of styles and periods. The ambience will be intimate since it is one of the characteristics that makes the classical guitar unique,” Scaramucci said.

The 21-year-old began playing the guitar at the age of seven and for the past five years, he’s been studying music, performing and competing throughout Europe.

Since 2015 he’s been studying at the renowned Conservatorio Rossini in Italy where he was twice awarded a scholarship for the best students. He performed his first solo recital at the age of 17 in 2016. He regularly performs in the Conservatorio Rossini concert series as soloist or in chamber music formations. Scaramucci has also performed in Switzerland and in Germany. After concluding his Bachelor degree in 2018, he is currently attending a Master course in Classical Guitar Performance as well as a Composition course at the Conservatorio Rossini.

Now Scaramucci is giving folks a chance to hear him live on Jan. 19 with his Classical Guitar Solo Recital. Admission to his concert is by donation.

“The concert is by donation because I want to get as many people as possible interested in my event,” Scaramucci said.

Filippo Scaramucci’s Classical Guitar Solo Recital is Sunday, Jan. 19 at 5 p.m. in the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Admission is by donation.
