Fraser Valley Comedy kicks off new year with two Chilliwack shows

First Nations and Friends Comedy, plus Pro/Am Comedy Night bring laughs to Chilliwack

Fraser Valley Comedy is offering two nights of laughs for the month of January.

To kick off the new year, it’s First Nations and Friends Comedy at Corky’s Irish Pub hosted by local Stó:lō comic Helena Paul and headlined by Kwasi Thomas on Jan. 19.

Sharing personal stories and provocative opinions, Kwasi Thomas is a crowd pleaser across the country. From Montreal’s ComedyWorks and ComedyNest to Ontario and B.C.’s Yuk Yuk’s venues as well as countless independent tours, Kwasi spends a healthy portion of his life on stage. He has represented Montreal at the Just for Laughs Homegrown Stand Up Comedy Competition. Kwasi has also featured in Vancouver filmed television shows such as Altered Carbon and Green Berets Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse.

Special performances by Deb Silver, Beverley O’Neil, Keith Nahanee, Rajneesh Dhawan Marlene Swidzinski and Keller Reeves.

Up next is Pro/Am Comedy Night at Chances Chilliwack on Friday, Jan, 25 with pro headlining comic Patrick Maliha.

Patrick Maliha is the world record holder for most impressions in one minute- beating out the previous record holder, Dana Carvey. His act has been described as Ray Romano meets a 21st Century Don Rickles. Also a writer for the hit Netflix show Mystery Science 3000.

Patrick co-hosted The Afternoon Buzz every Monday to Friday on Talk 1410 Radio for which he won numerous awards including, Favourite Afternoon Radio Show. His love of television and film has led him to become a voting member of the Vancouver Film Critics Circle, one half of The Movie Guys on the TV show Urban Rush, head writer and producer for the KVOS television show Off Centre Television, host of UR at The Movies, and the nationally syndicated television show The New Driver’s Seat.

A professional stand-up comedian and talented impressionist, Patrick has headlined and emceed various shows at a multitude of comedy clubs, festivals, and corporate events through out Canada and the U.S. In 2008 and 2009 he was voted Favourite Vancouver Comedian in the prestigious Georgia Straight ‘Best Of’ Awards and has been featured on CBC radio, XM and Sirius satellite radio’s various comedy programs. His one-hour Comedy Now special aired in the fall of 2011 on both CTV and The Comedy Network.

Special Performances by Alfie Rosselli, Héctor Rivas, Robert Peng, James Idol, Cari Norton Moore, and hosted by Yo Trieu.
