Chicken racing and more at Thigh Society theatre fundraiser in Chilliwack

Offtopic Theatre Society hosts its annual fundraiser to help with costs for the FV Zone Festival

Offtopic Theatre Society is inviting people to have a clucking good time at their fundraiser this weekend to help bring their show Chickens: The Musical to the Fraser Valley Zone Festival in May.

The fundraiser, Thigh Society, takes place April 13 at Cowork Chilliwack.

“This is the second annual fundraiser for Offtopic. It’s our big push to raise money for the Fraser Valley Zone competition fees and to get the word out about our show,” says director Emily Hamel. “We’ve worked hard to come up with a fun experience for this year’s fundraiser, and we’re very excited for a memorable evening at Cowork Chilliwack.”

The evening starts at 7 p.m. with appetizers to peck at, a silent auction, and a remote control chicken race. Yup, chicken racing! The costume designers for Chickens have joined forces with Offtopic’s props department to bring a high-octane chicken race experience while you wait for the show to start.

Showtime begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be hosted by Sheri Eyre and Jessie Klotz. The dynamic duo has been working hard sneaking as many chicken puns as they can into the show, so if you savour the sweet sounds of peeps groaning at an obvious pun, you won’t want to miss their egg-citing emceeing skills.

Cast members of the musical — Kailea De Leon, Katy Lowe, Brady Moore, Pauline Dynowski, JD Dueckman, and Jeffrey Nordstrom — will be performing some of their favourite pop, rock, and musical theatre songs. They’ll be joined by crew members, designers, and other local talent.

Tickets for the Thigh Society fundraiser for the Fraser Valley Zone Festival are $30. The event takes place Saturday, April 13 at 7 p.m. at Cowork Chilliwack (#12-8465 Harvard Pl.). The Fraser Valley Zone Festival (a regional theatre competition) runs May 12 to 17 in Coquitlam and features six plays. Offtopic performs on May 17 at the festival.

The preview for Offtopic’s production of Chickens: The Musical by Lucia Frangione is set for Saturday, May 11 at Vineyard Community Church in Chilliwack at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $20.
