The Bergmann Duo returns to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre with an intimate afternoon concert that celebrates timeless masterpieces of classical music.

On Nov. 12, join Marcel and Elizabeth Bergmann for a presentation of a few of Mussorgsky’s and Rachmaninoff’s more prominent pieces, as transcribed for two pianos.

“We are so excited to be back once again to perform for our Chilliwack friends,” Elizabeth Bergmann said. “It has been too long. We hope to present an uplifting programme with the majestic and powerful music of two Russian composers, Mussorgsky and Rachmaninoff.”

This presentation of Mussorgsky’s timeless masterpiece Pictures at an Exhibition, transcribed for two pianos by British composer Tim Seddon, will also feature Rachmaninov’s own two-piano version of his energetic Symphonic Dance No.1.

“The Pictures at an Exhibition, inspired by a series of paintings, are a depiction of someone walking through a gallery and viewing those paintings,” Elizabeth said. “It is an incredibly epic piece, well known for its pianistic virtuosity and probably the best known of Mussorgsky’s works. Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances are his last work written and the Dance No. 1, which we will be playing, combines a driving energy with beautiful and lyrical melodies of melancholy. These are some of our favourite pieces and we can’t wait to share them with a live audience.”

Pictures at an Exhibition with the Bergmann Duo is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Friday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $27, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).

Unlike previous performances by the Bergmann Duo, this performance will be taking place in the HUB International Theatre to help maintain patron comfort and safety.
