Have you ever wanted to conduct a symphony orchestra? On May 28, you might be able to do just that.

The Chilliwack Metropolitan Orchestra is looking for a guest conductor to lead the group through one song in celebration of our nation’s sesquicentennial anniversary.

“It’s our tribute to Canada’s 150th,” says CMO member Anne Fleming. “What this individual would be doing is conducting O Canada.”

They’re looking for someone of any age, young or old, with no musical background necessary.

The CMO is hoping to find “someone who’s always wanted to get involved (with an orchestra), but who hasn’t had the opportunity,” she adds.

Those interested in applying are to send the CMO their story of why they want to be the guest conductor.

The lucky winner will come for one or two rehearsals and work with conductor Gregory Johnson and the orchestra in the weeks leading up to the concert.

The CMO’s spring concert, Night in Vienna, takes place Sunday, May 28 at 3 p.m. at the Cultural Centre. It’ll be a matinee of waltzes, polkas and light music.

Anyone wishing to apply to be the CMO’s guest conductor for O Canada, can go to chilliwackmetropolitan.com for more information. The deadline is May 12.
