Sept. 27, 2024 • The Chilliwack Rhythm Reelers will be hosting two free dance sessions as part of its Modern Social Square Dance program, a social activity offering low-impact fitness. The sessions will be held on Friday, Sept. 20 and Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at Atchelitz Hall (6542 Lickman Rd.). No experience is necessary. Couples, singles, and families are welcome. Sept. 27, 2024 • Did you know that bats are important pollinators, insect control, good for the environment, and indicators of a healthy area? Fraser Valley Conservancy presents 'All About Bats' on Friday, Sept. 27. This is a free presentation (registration required) with guest speaker Aysha Mcconkey, junior biologist from B.C. Bats. Some bats are at risk and need help. Folks can become a bat volunteer and participate in a citizen science program. This event runs from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Ryder Lake Hall (49265 Elk View Rd.). Sept. 27, 2024 • It's Fraser Valley Comedy night at Corky's Irish Pub on Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. Cover charge is $10.

Sept. 27 and 28, 2024 • The third annual Orange Shirt Day Pow Wow is Sept. 27 and 28 at Chilliwack Secondary School (46363 Yale Rd.). Grand entry times are 7 p.m. on Friday; and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday. The host drum is Wild River. This is a free event and is open to the public. Sept. 27, 2024 • Drop in to the Chilliwack Library for its Codebreaking with STEAM session. It will be an afternoon of self-led decoding where people can use their STEAM skills to uncover messages in Morse Code, Ciphers and more. All ages welcome. Drop-in. Chilliwack Library: Friday, Sept. 27 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Sept. 28, 2024 • The Chilliwack RCMP are holding a free, family-friendly open house on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 45924 Airport Rd. People will be able to see inside the detachment, including the cell block. The day also includes a by-donation barbecue provided by the Chilliwack Fire Department, Sgt. Safety Bear, police dogs, the explosives disposal unit, police vehicles, activities for kids, photo opportunities with members in red serge, and much more.

Sept. 28, 2024 • Stan Giles takes the stage with a Shania Twain tribute artist on Sept. 28 at Corky's Irish Pub at 8:30 p.m. Cover charge is $20 at the door.

Sept. 30, 2024 • 'Honouring Residential School Survivors and Thrivers' takes place on Monday, Sept. 30, starting at 10:30 a.m. It is presented by Stó:lō leadership and the Sts’elemeqw Residential School Thrivers Society. The day will include speakers, survivors' stories and tours of the Coqualeetza site. It's at Stó:lō Nation at 7201 Vedder Rd.

Sept. 30, 2024 • The Chilliwack Cultural Centre is inviting the public to a canoe-dipping ceremony and installation on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Carved by Ralph Leon Sr. of Sts’ailes, and gifted by Sqwá First Nation, the canoe will be dipped in the water by the boat launch on Lower Landing Drive around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30. It will then be paraded to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre for its installation between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. This is a free event.

Sept. 30, 2024 • People are invited to honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Greendale Acres and help raise money for an Indigenous mentorship program on Monday, Sept. 30. A sharing of culture from the Pil’alt Canoe Family will be at 2 p.m. Bannock will be for sale from noon to 3 p.m. and part proceeds from this will go to Mémiyelhtel, an Indigenous youth mentorship program in Chilliwack that provides holistic, long-term and intensive support to vulnerable youth. There will be free admission for all Indigenous peoples from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. People are encouraged to wear orange that day. Greendale Acres is located at 41905 Yale Rd. W. Oct. 1, 2024 • The Purple Light Nights campaign kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 1 in Chilliwack with a tree-lighting ceremony and speakers at the Chilliwack RCMP detachment on Airport Road at 7 p.m. The month-long event is a reminder that there is zero tolerance for domestic violence.

Oct. 1, 2024 • There will be a screening of film 'Bones of Crows' at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Synopsis: Removed from their family home and forced into Canada’s residential school system, Cree musical prodigy Aline and her siblings are plunged into a struggle for survival. Bones of Crows is Aline's journey from child to matriarch, a moving multi-generational epic of resilience, survival and the pursuit of justice. This film is for a 14+ audience. Oct. 2, 2024 • Inclusion Chilliwack (formally called Chilliwack Society for Community Living) and Chilliwack Improv are cohosting Chilliwack Improv and Talent Show. It'll be an evening of improv theatre while showcasing Chilliwack’s local talent on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this community event are by donation and all proceeds go to Inclusion Chilliwack to help support people living with diverse abilities.

Oct. 2, 2024 • The Bad Decisions Comedy Tour is coming to Bricklayer Brewing (101-46126 Yale Rd.) on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.). The event features Scott Porteous, Nelson Mayer, Chris Basso and Herbert Henries with special guest Keller Reeves. Tickets $25 for one, or $40 for two. This is a 19+ show. Oct. 3, 2024 • The Chilliwack Foundation is holding an awareness event at Cowork Chilliwack on Oct. 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in studio C (12-8465 Harvard Pl.). The intent is to inform lawyers, accountants, financial advisors and others of the Chilliwack Foundation’s work in the community, and for these people to spread the word to their clients. This is not a solicitation for funds. Hors d’oeuvres and bar included.

Oct. 3, 2024 • The monthly Chilliwack ostomy meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. in the Canora building at the Atchelitz Threshermen's Association site beside Chilliwack Heritage Park (44146 Luckakuck Way). It is a support group for people who have had a colostomy. Family members and friends are also welcome. For more info, call Cec at 604-858-1983.

Oct. 4, 2024 • East Coast blues musician Morgan Davis will be making his debut at Bozzini’s Upstairs Lounge on Oct. 4. For nearly 60 years, Davis has been playing the blues while travelling across Canada, the U.S. and Europe. His performances draw from a lifelong study of the rich tradition of country blues, re-interpreting songs of the 1920s and '30s on electric instruments. His original compositions are infused with wit and a good dose of humour. Morgan Davis performs on Oct. 4 at 5:45 p.m. Tickets $27.50. Oct. 4, 2024 • Menopause the Musical is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Oct. 4. Tickets range from $63.55 to $84.55 and available at the cultural centre, online at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca or by calling 604-391-SHOW (7469).

Oct. 4, 2024 • Citizen Hurricane, a rock-and-roll comedy act, is at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. It's part standup comedy, part improv and part music. Tickets $39 and available at the cultural centre, online at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca or by calling 604-391-SHOW (7469).

Oct. 5, 2024 • The Heritage Chilliwack Society will host its Heritage Discovery Day and Home Tour on Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This self-guided ticketed event will give people the chance to step inside five private heritage homes and three other historical locations. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in advance at Cornerstone Custom Picture Framing and Gallery (9369 Mill St.) or the Chilliwack Museum (45820 Spadina Ave.) – cash or e-transfer only. Tickets are also available online at eventbrite.com/e/heritage-discovery-day-home-tour-tickets-991628697127, or on the day of the tour at the Royal Hotel (45886 Wellington Ave.). There is a limited number of tickets available. People must check in at the Royal Hotel starting at 10:30 a.m. on day of event (Saturday, Oct. 5) where there will be maps, ticket booklets and wristbands to get access to the locations. The properties will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Oct. 5, 2024 • Songs for Nobodies: A Musical is at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. This show features the music of Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf, and Maria Callas. Oct. 5, 2024 • The Golden Palette Art Club is hosting its annual Art Show on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cultus Lake Community Hall (4220 Columbia Valley Hwy.). Local artists will be showcasing their paintings and other creative works for sale. Admission is free.

Oct. 5, 2024 • Brewhalla Chilliwack returns to Watson Glen Park, on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The beer festival includes live entertainment, more than 25 craft beverages available to sample, food trucks and lawn games. For more, go to brewhalla.ca/festivals/chilliwack-2024.

Oct. 5, 2024 • ‘A Novel Night to Remember’ is a fundraiser to support literacy programs in Chilliwack and it’s taking place at the Coast Hotel Chilliwack on Oct. 5. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is at 6:15 p.m. There will be a silent auction, 50/50 draw, and live music. People are encouraged to come dressed in character costumes. There will be special appearances by members of the Chilliwack Players Guild. Tickets are $65 each ($455 for a table of 8) by Sept. 15, or $70 each ($490 for a table of 8) from Sept. 16 to 27. Oct. 5, 2024 • Learn all about henna/mehndi, an ancient form of art, during Henna Art for Teens with artist Sidrah Ahmad at the Chilliwack Library. Henna/mehndi is a natural dye and can last up to two weeks. There will be an opportunity for hands-on practice at this event. Registration is required. This is for ages 13 to 18. Oct. 5, 2024 • Celebrate Culture Days with the Sardis Library during ‘Métis Jig Dancing with Fergus Dalton’ on Oct. 5 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Dalton performs and teaches traditional Métis jigging all across the Lower Mainland. Starting from a young age, he began learning from Lisa Sheppard as one of the Maple Sugar Jiggers. He now focuses on solo performing and teaching while carrying on the cultural tradition of interlacing stories and history into his performances. Drop in, all ages welcome.

Oct. 5, 2024 • The Chilliwack Thrift Market is Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Chilliwack Heritage Park. There will be a vintage and collectibles section. Admission is $2, and it's free admission for kids under the age of 10. For more, email chwkthriftmarket@gmail.com.

Oct. 5 to Dec. 16, 2024 • Paws 4 Stories is at the Chilliwack and Sardis libraries from Oct. 5 to Dec. 16. Reading to a four-legged buddy can help build confidence and increase self-esteem. Child-certified therapy dogs from St. John Ambulance are the perfect fit for those needing a friend to read to. Participants are asked to have a book picked out to read to the dog ahead of their 15-minute appointment. Call or drop by the library to schedule a session. Oct. 6, 2024 • Join Tim and The Glory Boys for 'Canoegrass: The Tour' as they bring their infectious blend of country, bluegrass, and blue-collar comedy to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. Hailing from Canada, this family-friendly band is renowned for their lively performances and heartfelt lyrics that celebrate the essence of Canadiana. Oct. 10, 2024 • Join naturopathic physician Dr. Jeanne Paul for ‘Traditional Medicine in Health Care,’ a presentation on healing, melding traditional and technical knowledge accompanied with research. Dr. Paul is of the Coast Salish tribe from the Sliammon Band in beautiful British Columbia and has over 30 years of experience studying and teaching about our native plants and their uses in medical care. Oct. 11, 2024 • On Oct. 11, alternative folk duo Flagship Romance will take the stage at Bozzini’s Upstairs Lounge. Married singers-songwriters Shawn Fisher and Jordyn Jackson are known for their breathtaking vocal harmonies, inspired songwriting, dynamic live show, and a remarkable on and off-stage chemistry. Oct. 15, 2024 • Join the staff at the Chilliwack Library for Blast from the Past on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.Go for a walk down memory lane and learn more about the library’s history. Check out our extensive display of pictures, newspaper clippings and more. Some photographs supplied by the Chilliwack Museum and Archives. This is a drop-in event.

Oct. 17, 2024 • The Aging Well Expo is on Oct. 17 at Evergreen Hall (9291 Corbould St.) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free event, aimed at seniors, will have information and resources from 43 exhibitors. The day includes: a free pancake breakfast starting at 8 a.m., chair yoga, strength-and-balance class, workshops with topics like: income support, dementia, affordable eating, falls prevention, and decluttering.

Oct. 18, 2024 • One-man show God is a Scottish Drag Queen 3 starring award-winning comedian Mike Delamont is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Oct. 18 at 7:30 pm. This show contains adult material and situations and may not be appropriate for all audiences.

Oct. 18, 2024 • The Friday Every Day Café for Seniors event is at the Chilliwack Library on Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Seniors can enjoy activities, light refreshments and occasionally special guests. On Oct. 18 the topic is ‘Get to Know Your Library’ (for Library Month). Learn about all the library has to offer from digital resources to Playground items. This is a drop-in event.

Oct. 19, 2024 • Chilliwack District Girl Guides is hosting its Rocktober Music Trivia Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Skwah Community Centre (30 Landing Dr.). This event will raise money for the Girl Guides Quebec 2025 patrol which is made up of 14 youth and three adults who will be going to Quebec City, Montreal and Ottawa. Join music trivia host Darren Kennedy who will take people on a musical journey to decide who is the Rocktober Music Trivia champion with prizes for first, second and third place teams. Register solo, with a friend, or with a team up to five people. All teams will consist of five people max — solo and partial teams will band together to form a new alliance. Oct. 19 and 20, 2024 • All About Expos presents its Train and Hobby Show at Chilliwack Heritage Park on Oct. 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Admission is $6, and it's free admission for kids aged five and under. For more, go to allaboutexpos.com.

Oct. 20, 2024 • The Shire of Lionsdale, the local branch of the Society of Creative Anachronism, invites one and all to the St. Crispin’s Festival at the Atcheliz Hall (6542 Lickman Rd.) on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Witness armoured combat, Bardic performance arts, historical crafts, archery, rapier (fencing) and more. People can try their hand at archery and thrown weapons (knife, axe and spear). There are also local merchants selling hand-made wares.

Oct. 20, 2024 • Celebrity impersonator Bonnie Kilroy will be at the Sardis Library to entertain seniors on Oct. 20 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This afternoon of free entertainment is in partnership with the Sardis United Way.

Oct. 21, 2024 • It’s Bad Art Night at the Chilliwack Library on Monday, Oct. 21 from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Release your creative spirit and create some silly, surprising and creative artwork with no pressure to make it “good.” All materials will be provided and examples will be on display to inspire you. Registration required. For ages 19+.

Oct. 22, 2024 • The Chilliwack Library hosts STEAM Tween Tuesdays once a month for kids in Grades 4 to 7. Sessions run from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 22, Nov. 19, and Dec. 10. Oct 22: Climate action week – build a model of your own sustainable, climate-friendly town. Nov. 19: Binary coding – learn the language of computers. We will show you how to add in binary numbers and how to spell your name in binary form using beads. Dec 10: Zipline reindeer – examine the effects of friction, gravity and air resistance on a reindeer as they are raced against each other.

Oct. 24, 2024 • Celebrate the music of Franz Schubert when the Vancouver Chamber Music Society presents Schubertiade at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $32 and available at the cultural centre, online at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca or by calling 604-391-SHOW (7469).

Oct. 25 to 27, 2024 • The Fraser Valley Women's Expo returns to Chilliwack Heritage Park from Oct. 25 to Oct. 27. There will be 150 vendor booths featuring fashion, jewelry, cosmetics, wellness products, local artisans, food and more. Hours: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $9, or $15 for a full weekend pass. For more, go to fvwomensexpo.com.

Oct. 26, 2024 • The second annual Mrs. Roper Romp is happening in Chilliwack on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. This event will see a group of adults dressed up in wigs and caftan dresses in honour of Helen Roper from the 1970s sitcom Three's Company. This is a public event where the ‘Helens’ will do a four-pub walk through District 1881. For more info, go to facebook.com/events/421094834311894.

Oct. 26, 2024 • The Chilliwack Metropolitan Orchestra presents Fall Cornucopia on Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Oct. 26, 2024 • Chilliwack Prom Night Massacre, a thrilling Halloween event where sophistication meets the supernatural, is Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Landing Sports Centre from 7 p.m. to midnight. This 19+ event is hosted by Sonic Bark Vinyl Co. and features: performances by the Kids in the Ball, DJ Darren spinning haunting beats, flash tattoos, catered food, beer, cotton candy and merchandise. Dress in spooky attire for a chance to win in the costume contest. Tickets are $40 and available at sonicbark.ca/pages/haunted-prom.

Oct. 26, 2024 • A community barbecue that's part of the annual Purple Light Nights campaign is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Vedder Elementary School. The month-long campaign is a reminder that there is zero tolerance for domestic violence. The barbecue is rain or shine and will include live music, face painting, and members of the Chilliwack Fire Department who will cook up the barbecue lunch. There will be information and support available at the event.

Oct. 26, 2024 • Halloween concert and costume party ‘Creepin’ It Real’ is at the Chill House (45910 Alexander Ave.) on Saturday, Oct. 26. The event features the following bands: Like Bears, Transitional Alien, and Tayos. There will be a cash prize for best costume. This is an all ages event and tickets are $15 (door sales only - cash/debit/credit). Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Oct. 27, Nov. 3 and Dec. 13, 2024 • The Candlelight concerts, featuring a local string quartet illuminated by thousands of candles, are coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre for six performances over three evenings. On Oct. 27, the quartet will be performing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and more. On Nov. 3, it's 'A Tribute to Taylor Swift' and on Dec. 13, people will hear 'A Tribute to Coldplay on Strings.' Oct. 28, 2024 • The Sardis Library is having its Halloween Puzzle Contest on Monday, Oct. 28 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Come in costume and enjoy some fun Halloween-themed competition. Register as a team of up to four or sign up individually and we will do our best to add you to a team. Prizes will be awarded for best costume and to the team that completes the puzzle fastest. The 500 piece puzzle is best suited for adults, however, children under 10 and up can register if they are accompanied by an adult. Registration required, call or drop by the library to sign up.

Oct. 28 and 29, 2024 • There will be two nights of rockin' blues on Oct. 28 and 29 with the JW Jones Trio at Bozzini’s Upstairs Lounge. Jones, a Canadian singer-guitarist, is a Billboard Top 10 Blues Artist, 2020 International Blues Challenge winner, and JUNO nominee. He is known for his high-energy shows. The JW Jones Trio performs on Oct. 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets $36.75. Oct. 29, 2024 • Two libraries will be hosting a Halloween story time on Oct. 29. Oct. 31, 2024 • The Chilliwack Restorative Justice & Youth Advocacy Association is hosting Accessible Halloween Village on Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Central Elementary School (9435 Young Rd.). It will feature a wide range of artisan products, including locally designed clothing, homemade gourmet treats, handcrafted art, and artisanal spirits. It is in partnership with the Chilliwack Learning Society.

NOW to Dec. 19, 2024 • Discover fun with rhymes, songs, and stories during the Parent-Child Mother Goose program at the Sardis and Yarrow libraries. This is an interactive program for children up to age three and their caregivers. Mother Goose helps learn ways to encourage a child's language and social/emotional development. There are four session to choose from: Wednesdays at the Sardis Library (Sept. 18 to Nov. 6), at 9 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m.; and at the Yarrow Library on Thursdays (Nov. 7 to Dec. 19) at 9:30 a.m. and at 11 a.m. Registration is required. NOW to January 2025 • The opening reception for Stó:lō Salish weaving exhibit 'Salish Story Weavings of S'olh Temexw' is at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. The exhibit is curated by Joy Hall. The display features intricate designs and profound narratives woven into each piece made by the following Sto:lo Salish weavers: Teqwotenot, Frieda George (master weaver); Poleqtanot, Saylesh Wesley; Teqwotenot, Roxanne Dool; and Gwasgwasinek, Natalie Jimmie. The exhibit celebrates the rich cultural heritage, oral histories, and transformation stories of Sólh Téméxw (Our Land) and the Stó:lō people. Emcee Á'a Líya Warbus will explain the cultural journey of the woven pieces. It will be on display until January.

NOW to June 2025 • The Chilliwack Rhythm Reelers, a non-profit modern social square dance group, is starting beginner classes on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at Atchelitz Hall (6542 Lickman Rd.). Classes take place every Friday from September 2024 to June 2025. The lessons are filled with fun, fitness and friendly people. Having a partner is not necessary. The group is made up of a diverse age range of dancers. Teens are welcome, but they must be accompanied by an adult.

The Chilliwack Chess Club meets twice a week where chess aficionados can connect, learn, and engage in friendly matches. It is open to everyone from beginners to grand masters. They meet Fridays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Starbucks across from Real Canadian Superstore (45750 Luckakuck Way) and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Salvation Army Church on Brooks Avenue.

First Saturday of each month • Very Very Improv Theatre, a professional company based in the Fraser Valley, has monthly performances at CoWork Chilliwack. Scott Campbell is leading a company of talented improvisers from across the Lower Mainland including Chilliwack-based comedian Cliff Prang. Every Tuesday night • Corky’s Irish Pub wants you to come be a rock star as they host karaoke every Tuesday night.
