UPCOMING EVENTS (see current and ongoing events further down):

June 21, 2024 • Join others on International Day of Yoga and help support people in need on June 21 during ‘Yoga for the Food Bank.’ This family-friendly vinyasa yoga class takes place at Central Community Park from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will be led by Lindsay Maple from Oxygen Yoga and Fitness. Admission is a donation of non-perishable food or money for the Salvation Army Food Bank. The class will end with a sound bath savasana by The Offering.

June 21, 2024 • Indigenous fashion, arts and music gala Chillcouture: Shxwthit’awkw' will be held on National Indigenous People's Day, June 21. The evening local Indigenous fashion designers, Crystal Chapman, Lyn Kay and Nikki LaRock, plus musical performances by Arnie Leon, Maddi K and Dion Weisbrod, as well as an arts showcase, presenting local Indigenous artists. It starts at 6 p.m. and is at the Shxwá:y Cultural Centre (44692-B Skway Rd.). Tickets are $30 and available at eventcreate.com/e/chillcouture.

June 21 to end of August, 2024 • The annual Summer Reading Club hosted by the Fraser Valley Regional Library returns to all three Chilliwack branches. The theme this year is 'World of Curiosities' and registration begins in person or online at fvrl.bc.ca on June 21. It is open to people of all ages, and there are lots of chances to win prizes. Various library branches will have different events throughout the summer. Go to fvrl.bc.ca for more.

June 22, 2024 • Cultus Lake Day returns to Main Beach on Saturday, June 22 from 8:30 a.m. until dusk. There will be a pancake breakfast, parade, kids' activities, live music, a vendors' market, food and much more. Pay parking will be in effect.

June 22, 2024 • The Corky’s Irish Pub stage will see Sanctuary return on June 22 at 9 p.m. Cover charge is $10.

June 22, 2024 • The Rotary Club of Chilliwack is hosting its annual Garden Tour on Saturday, June 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event marks 20 years of self-guided tours featuring mostly private and some commercial gardens. Monies raised go to support the many projects the 90-year-old service club has done and is doing in the community and abroad including scholarships, Vedder Trail projects, food hampers for school children, climate action and more. Tickets are $25 and available at Minter Country Garden, Fortin’s Home Hardware (Vedder and Chilliwack locations), Hofstede’s, Little Mountain Greenhouse or online at chilliwackrotary.com.

June 22-23, 2024 • Cheam View United Church is hosting a grand opening of its newly renovated church (46875 Yale Rd.) on Saturday, June 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dignitaries from the City of Chilliwack, Skwah First Nation and the greater church are coming to speak and the community is invited to come celebrate, socialize and enjoy some food. The church went through an extensive renovation to make this site their new home after Rosedale, Mt. Shannon and Chilliwack United Churches amalgamated four years ago. There will also be a Celebration Worship Service on Sunday, June 23 at 10 a.m. with coffee and goodies following the service. 

June 23, 2024 • More than 500 classic cars will line Chilliwack’s downtown streets during the annual Fortin's Village Classic Car Show on Sunday, June 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, and an indoor kids' zone complete with popcorn, cotton candy and a bouncy castle. Registration for those who want their car on display must show up at 7 a.m. and enter the lineup at Princess Avenue and Yale Road. Registration is $10 per car, with a portion of the earnings being donated to the Salvation Army.

June 23, 2024 • Spencer Studios presents Crème de la Crème on Sunday, June 23 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre at 7 p.m. The dancers from the studio will pay tribute to the best of the best that night with everything from one-hit wonders to boy bands to rock and more. June 24, 2024 • Head to the Sardis Library for a butterfly release on Monday, June 24 at 3 p.m. Join staff for a short story and as they release the butterflies out into the world. This is a drop-in event.

June 25, 2024 • The Community Open House at The Paramount is June 25, 11 a.m to 3 p.m. with tours scheduled on the half hour, at #100-46187 Yale Rd. The event is hosted by Chilliwack Community Services. Anyone interested in checking out the new spaces, and learning about CCS programs is welcome to attend.

June 25, 2024 • The Chilliwack Community Band will have its season finale concert, with special guest Rod Swanson, on Tuesday, June 25 at 7 p.m. at Cooke's Presbyterian Church (45825 Wellington Ave.). Admission is by donation. For more, go to chilliwackcommunityband.ca. It will be their last evening concert with conductor Kevin Biegel, who will be retiring after the band's final daytime performance on July 1, which takes place during the Kiwanis Canada Day pancake breakfast at Evergreen Hall.

June 28 to 30, 2024 • Forest Echoes Music Festival featuring 19 different artists and bands runs Friday, June 28 to Sunday, June 30 at Forest Echoes Cabins (45825 Edmeston Rd.) in Cultus Lake. The outdoor festival includes rock, folk, jazz, soul, funk and blues. There will also be a festival kitchen, 10-12 vendors and festival merchandise. Weekend passes (includes two nights of camping) are $180 and day passes are $90. June 29, 2024 • The ladies auxiliary group with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 295 Chilliwack-Vedder is having a silent auction and art sale on Saturday, June 29 at the legion (5661 Vedder Rd.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be about 40 pieces of artwork for sale (donated by local artists and signed), plus approximately 20 items in the silent auction. There will also be a hot dog sale and the bar will be open. All money raised from the art sale and silent auction stays in Chilliwack and will go to local veterans and their families.

July 1, 2024 • There are several Canada Day events happening throughout Chilliwack and the surrounding area. Here are just some of them: Sardis Kiwanis pancake breakfast at Evergreen Hall from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Chilliwack Fire Department pancake breakfast at Hall 1 (45950 Cheam Ave.) from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.; 'Canada Day in the Valley' at 1202 Kosikar Rd. from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department barbecue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 48685 Chilliwack Lake Rd.; evening entertainment including nighttime drone show from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at The Landing (9145 Corbould St.). July 1 to 6, 2024 • The week-long Provincial Theatre Festival Mainstage 2024 will be at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre from July 1 to 6 featuring a different plays each day. The six shows represent the play judged best in its zone/region across B.C. as part of Theatre BC. The Chilliwack Players Guild is one of the six theatre groups who will be performing at Mainstage. People can either buy tickets to individual shows, a three-show pass, or a full-week pass. For tickets and more information, go to chilliwackculturalcentre.ca or call 604-391-SHOW. Mainstage 2024 also offers a variety of acting and directing workshops led by professionals associated with the Arts Club of Vancouver. Registration for these is available via theatrebc.org/workshops.

July 2-16, 2024 • Join yoga instructor Britt Zurowski for chair yoga at the Sardis Library, a gentle form of yoga to improve flexibility, concentration and strength while boosting one's mood. It takes place on Tuesdays (July 2, 9 and 16) from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Registration is required. Call 604-858-5503 or drop by the Sardis Library to sign up.

July 4 and 18, 2024 • 'Library for All' is an inclusive program for adults 19+, regardless of abilities. It's at the Chilliwack Library on Thursday July 4 and 18, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Bring friends, family members or caregivers. There will be special guests and activities, snacks, and new connections. This program is in collaboration with Chilliwack Society for Community Living. This is a drop-in event.

July 4, 2024 • The Summer Reading Club kick-off party, featuring Norden the Magician, is Thursday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Salish Park, behind the Chilliwack Library. There will be a bouncy castle, outdoor games, face painting, light refreshments and much more – sign up for Summer Reading Club while you’re at it. The party outside goes from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then the magic show will be inside from noon to 12:45 p.m. In the event of extreme weather, contact the Chilliwack Library to ensure event will go on as planned. This is a drop-in event.

July 4, 2024 • The Sardis Library is hosting 'Sensational Sasquatch Outdoor Storytime' on Thursday, July 4 at Watson Glen Park (behind the library) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Join others for a storytime in the park where people will learn all about the sensational Sasquatch. Stay after to make a craft and complete a special scavenger hunt to get a Sasquatch hunting license. This is a drop-in event.

July 7, 2024 • Maryland’s Justin Lev, who performs as Eli Lev will be performing in Chilliwack on July 7 at Bricklayer Brewing starting at 4 p.m.

July 13, 2024 • Band Chase the Bear plays at Corky’s Irish Pub on July 13 at 8:30 p.m. Cover charge $15.

July 14, 2024 • The fifth annual Bannister Chrysler Car Show is taking place on Sunday, July 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a fundraiser event to support Little Heroes Hockey Academy. It's taking place at 45730 Hocking Ave. In addition to classic cars, there will be face painting, a bouncy castle, food trucks, drunk tank and more. Those wanting to register their vehicle (minimum $25 donation) can do so online at bannisterchrysler.com/carshow2024, or call 604-792-2754 ext. 131 to register. Entry to the car show to view the vehicles is free.

July 19 to 28, 2024 • Secondary Characters Musical Theatre presents Monty Python's Spamalot from July 19 to July 28 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. This new musical is "lovingly ripped off" from the motion picture Monthy Python and the Holy Grail. Show times are: July 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m.; and July 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets available at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca or by calling 604-391-SHOW.

July 20, 2024 • It’s Saturday night karaoke at Corky’s Irish Pub on July 20 starting at 9 p.m.

July 21, 2024 • ‘Every Heart Matters’ will be the theme of the 2024 Chilliwack Pride Festival in downtown Chilliwack on Sunday, July 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Highlights will see a kids' zone with carnival-style games, an obstacle course, and face-painting. The main stage will feature live music and drag performances, plus there will be food trucks, a beer garden and more. The event takes place at Central Community Park and the surrounding area with portions of Wellington Avenue, Mill Street, Victoria Avenue, College Street and Bole Avenue closed to traffic.

Aug. 9 to 11, 2024 • The 152nd annual Chilliwack Fair returns to Chilliwack Heritage Park from Friday, Aug. 9 to Sunday, Aug. 11. For more, go to chilliwackfair.com.

Aug. 10, 2024 • The Women of Rock Show, hosted by Totally Tom Petty show band, is a multi-tribute show from Las Vegas and it'll be at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. Tribute acts include: Stevie Nicks (Sensational Stevie), Pat Benatar (Passionate Pat Benatar), Joan Jett (Rockin Joan Jett), and Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders (Coolest Chrissie Hynde). Tickets $60 and available at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca or by calling 604-391-SHOW.

Aug. 10, 2024 • Join the Valley Babes on Aug. 10 for a night of music, comedy and dance. The Valley Babes Variety Show will be at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $35 and available at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca or by calling 604-391-SHOW.

Aug. 15 to Aug. 17, 2024 • The annual Chilliwack Mural Festival returns to the downtown core from Thursday, Aug. 15 to Saturday, Aug. 17. The event will include guided tours, live music, and vendors. For more, go to chilliwackmuralfestival.com.

Aug. 17, 2024 • Flight Fest returns to the Chilliwack Airport on Aug. 17 and 18. The annual hangar dance (ticketed event) is the night of Saturday, Aug. 17 and the free air show takes place Sunday, Aug. 18. More info will be posted online at chilliwackflightfest.com.

Sept. 13, 2024 to June 2025 • The Chilliwack Rhythm Reelers, a non-profit modern social square dance group, are starting beginner classes on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at Atchelitz Hall. Classes take place every Friday from September 2024 to June 2025. The lessons are filled with fun, fitness and friendly people. Having a partner is not necessary. The group is made up of a diverse age range of dancers. Teens are welcome, but they must be accompanied by an adult.

Oct. 5, 2024 • Brewhalla Chilliwack returns to Watson Glen Park, on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The beer festival includes live entertainment, more than 25 craft beverages available to sample, food trucks and lawn games. For more, go to brewhalla.ca/festivals/chilliwack-2024.

CURRENT EVENTS:

NOW to July 6, 2024 • Brushstrokes of the Soul by Iryna Kharina and Nino Dobro is on display in the Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre from Wednesday, June 5 to Saturday, July 6. Admission is free and gallery hours are 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday.

NOW to Aug. 27, 2024 • The Chilliwack Library presents ‘Babytime Read and Play’ for caregivers and babies on Tuesdays from June 4 to Aug. 27, running from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Enjoy a casual time of socializing, reading and playing. All participants receive an extra entry into the library’s Summer Reading Club draws. Geared for babies ages 0 to 18 months. Toys and books will be provided. This is a drop-in program.

Now to Oct. 8, 2024 • Coast Valley Markets presents Market at the Coliseum every Tuesday starting on May 21, and running until Oct. 8. There will be food trucks, produce, artisans and music and it’s at 45323 Hodgins Ave. from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Tuesday. For more, go to coastvalleymarkets.com.

ONGOING EVENTS:

The Chilliwack Chess Club meets twice a week where chess aficionados can connect, learn, and engage in friendly matches. It is open to everyone from beginners to grand masters. They meet Fridays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Starbucks across from Real Canadian Superstore (45750 Luckakuck Way) and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Salvation Army Church on Brooks Avenue.

First Saturday of each month • Very Very Improv Theatre, a professional company based in the Fraser Valley, has monthly performances at CoWork Chilliwack. Scott Campbell is leading a company of talented improvisers from across the Lower Mainland including Chilliwack-based comedian Cliff Prang. The shows happen on the first Saturday of every month at CoWork Chilliwack. Tickets for all performances are available at veryveryimprov.ca/tickets.

Every Tuesday night • Corky’s Irish Pub wants you to come be a rock star as they host karaoke every Tuesday night.

Every Wednesday morning • TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) 1303 Chilliwack meets Wednesday mornings at the Fairfield Scouts Hall (47130 Hope River Rd.). Weigh in is at 8:15 a.m. followed by a meeting from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. For information call 604-316-5202 or e-mail alees45@hotmail.com.

Second Thursday of each month • The Fraser Valley Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Association is actively searching for serving, non-serving, family members or any other personnel who have served in any function with the Patricias to join them every second Thursday of each month at 11:30 a.m. at the Chilliwack-Vedder Legion Branch 295 (5661 Vedder Rd.). Last Friday of every month • The Mount Cheam Lions hosts a spaghetti dinner on the last Friday of every month at the Lions Club (45580 Spadina Ave.). The cost is $10 and includes spaghetti, garlic toast, tea or coffee, and dessert. It goes from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
