The pieces being created at the 2019 Chainsaw Carving Competion in Hope this weekend are starting to take shape.
There are more than a dozen carvers taking part in the competition, which is free to attend as an observer in Hope Memorial Park until Sunday, Aug. 18. One of the carvers is 14-year-old Porter Fultz. There is also Hope carver Pete Ryan, whose work is among those that spruce up the landscape around the small town.
Hundreds of people milled through the park on Friday at lunchtime, finding spots on logs set out for viewing, and enjoying the marketplace and food vendors on site for the day.
There is plenty to do throughout the weekend, including a salmon barbecue on Saturday, and the final auction on Sunday at 3 p.m. The event is organized by Hope’s Communities in Bloom committee.
Watch the Standard on Facebook this weekend for live coverage from the event.
