Tea and bake sale will raise funds for Camp River Hall in Chilliwack

Money raised from Camp River Ladies Circle event will go towards resurfacing floors, replacing fire alarm system

A group of Chilliwack women will be selling freshly-baked goods and other items to help raise money for upgrades at a local hall.

The Camp River Ladies Circle is hosting their annual Tea and Bake Sale on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Camp River Hall.

In addition to the bake sale, the afternoon will include raffles, local vendors, a craft market, community social, donation box and a wrapped mystery Christmas present table.

Admission is a minimum donation of $5 at the door, and that includes refreshments and baked goods at the tables.

Money raised will go towards resurfacing the floors and replacing/updating the fire alarm system. The repairs are expected to cost between $55,000 and $65,000.

The idea for Camp River Hall was originally brought to light in 1907 when residents of the area recognized a need for a community hall. The hall was built the next year.

In 1948, the Camp River Ladies Circle was formed, and that spring/summer the inaugural Strawberry Social took place. It has been held every year since.

"The history of the hall shows community investment and dedication that has paid all the bills of the hall in the past," said member Clara Hooper. "The Camp River Ladies continue to support the hall and host regular fundraisers, as well as community socials open to everyone."

The annual Tea and Bake Sale, hosted by the Camp River Ladies Circle, is Saturday, Nov. 30 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Camp River Hall (50246 Camp River Rd.).
