The recent eighth annual Step Up 4 Cardiac Health raised almost $14,000 for cardiac health in the Fraser Valley.
The event, hosted by the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVHCF), was held Feb. 9 at Abbotsford Centre, attracting more than 100 participants and 40 volunteers.
The fundraiser involved groups and individuals doing as many “laps” as they could of the 596-step concourse to see who can do the most steps or raise the most money. Each lap consists of more than 750 steps.
FVHCF executive director Liz Harris said a highlight was having two new recruits from the Abbotsford Fire Fighters Association completing the challenge in full turnout gear – each weighing approximately 50 pounds.
Other highlights included:
• Mayor Ross Siemens celebrating his daughter Alex, who claimed the most laps for a female, with 22;
• Micheal leading the men's category with 20 laps;
• Quinn winning the youth division with 15 laps; and
• the Heart Hustlers from the cardiac unit at Abbotsford Regional Hospital earning the award for best costume.
The award for top fundraiser, which includes a $200 voucher donated by Kintec Footwear, is open for contributions until Feb. 28.
