A batch of sweet volunteers will be handing out thousands of free cupcakes in Chilliwack on Wednesday.
The third annual Chilliwack Cupcake Festival is set for Sept. 25 where about 3,000 cupcakes will be given away at various locations throughout Chilliwack. They will also be delivering them to Chilliwack General Hospital, the RCMP detachment and Chilliwack Fire Department halls.
The sole purpose of the event is to spread joy throughout the community.
"People are like 'What's the catch?' They don't expect to get something for nothing," said Nancy Guitar, founder of the festival.
On Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 23 and 24) she and other volunteers baked and decorated about 250 dozen cupcakes. She said the event wouldn't be possible without the generosity of local businesses and people.
Donations came in the way of ingredients, paper muffin cups, and auction items which brought in money to help pay for other supplies to make the cupcakes.
Kerry Krahn, owner of SinAmen Bun Co. allowed Guitar and her team to use the bakery's kitchen for two days at no charge. He also ordered supplies at wholesale cost, and even paid for some of the ingredients.
"There are so many generous people and businesses here in Chilliwack. I tell people, when you give it feels so good. It feels so wonderful," Guitar said.
