Several GoFundMe campaigns have been started in Abbotsford in support of people who have been affected by the flooding.
One was started to help dairy farmers who have been impacted, providing relief for food, shelter and basic needs for the families and veterinary care for their animals.
The fundraiser can be found by searching “Help BC Dairy Farmers Devastated by Flooding” at gofundme.com.
Another campaign was started by two students from Japan who are attending University of the Fraser Valley. The fund will help friends, faculty and staff affected.
It it titled “Funds for our flooded hometown.”
A third campaign was started by the racing community on behalf of a local resident and fellow racer, Derek Lewis, who lost his farm to flooding. He earned his income by raising ducks and selling eggs.
The campaign is titled “Derek Lewis Flood Help.”
Also being supported through a GoFundMe campaign is a local couple, Joanne and Mike, who have dedicated their lives to saving animals through their sanctuary. The floods have taken over their barns, yard and home.
They were able to get their horses, goats, and sheep to safety and most of their small animals to a neighbour’s house, but the lives of a few of their animals and all of their supplies were lost.
That campaign is titled “Help Save the Pet Sanctuary.”
