Tuesday, Dec. 4 to Saturday, Dec. 8 • The students at Sardis Secondary are performing the musical Les Misérables Dec. 4 to 8 at the school theatre. Performances take place nightly at 7 p.m., plus a matinee at 2 p.m. on Dec. 8. Tickets $15 for evening performances, $10 for matinee. Tickets available at the school or by calling 604-858-9424.
Wednesday, Dec. 5 • The Chilliwack Hospice Society’s Christmas Open House takes place from 2 to 5 p.m. at 7112 Vedder Rd. Snacks provided. RSVP by Dec. 3 to 604-795-4660.
Friday, Dec. 7 • Christmas Cheer with the Chilliwack Harmony Chorus: Join the members of the Chilliwack Harmony Chorus as they celebrate the season – barbershop style! Everyone is welcome to join us for holiday refreshments and an enjoyable hour of Christmas music. Sardis Library from 3 to 4 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 8 • The 25th annual Remax Nyda Realty Toy House runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at IHOP (45466 Yale Rd.). Drop off your new, unwrapped toy to assist Chilliwack Community Services’ Christmas Sharing Program for less-fortunate children and teens in Chilliwack. There will also be face painting, treats, and free photos with Santa.
Saturday, Dec. 8 • The Chilliwack Alano Club’s kids’ Christmas party with Santa runs from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 46035 Victoria St. The Alano Club is 36 years old, and the society is almost 60 years old. The club needs cash donations to upgrade washrooms, electrical in the big meeting room, a roof inspection and eventual kitchen upgrades. More info: firstname.lastname@example.org, 604-392-5834.
Dec. 8 to 23 • The owls and raptors from Raptors Ridge Birds of Prey will be at Minter Country Garden store Dec. 8, 9, 22 and 23 (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), and there are lots of great ways to have a really cool raptor experience. At 1 p.m. each day, Kim will be taking guests on a guided a ‘Nature Walk’ (no registration is required, meet at the entertainment area by the flocked trees and dress for the weather). There is no charge to view the owls/raptors or to attend the nature walk. For younger owl enthusiasts (aged 8-15), be sure to register for the Youth Owl Class at 11 a.m. each day. This one-hour session will focus on the secret lives of owls and why they are truly amazing in flight, hearing and eyesight. Each student will receive their own owl pellet for dissection and have a chance to meet Radar, the great horned owl. Pre-registration is required and is limited to 10 students per class (Dec. 8, 9, 22 & 23). Call 604-792-6612 to sign up (there is no charge). Finally, new this year, Kim and Karen are providing photographers with a rare opportunity to get close-up photos of the birds of prey, Dec. 8 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (by pre-booked time slots). The cost of the session is $25 per photographer (sorry, this is limited to photographers only and additional people are not permitted in the frame) and all funds will be donated to Elizabeth’s Wildlife Centre in Abbotsford. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required by Dec. 5. Call 604-792-6612 to register (or visit us in-store). Space is limited to the first 10 people registered, and five-minute time blocks will be allowed. Refunds will not be given for cancellations.
Sunday, Dec. 9 • Yarrow Choral and Performing Arts Society presents its advent concert Shalom, Pacem, Peace on World Choral Day. The concert features performances by the Fraser Valley Children’s Choirs, Yarrow Community Choir, UP!, and Yarrow String Quartet, and is at Yarrow United Mennonite Church (4336 Eckert St.) at 3 p.m. Tickets: $10 adults and $5 students/seniors, and available at eventbrite.ca, Inspired Arts and Gifts (42333 Yarrow Central Rd.), and from choir members.
Now to Dec. 13 • The Wheeler Cheam Realty’s 9th annual Christmas Stocking Drive is underway. Stop by their office (8-8337 Young Rd.) and pick up a stocking for $2, then bring it back filled with unwrapped items by Dec. 13. If you’re too busy to fill a stocking, drop off a donation and they will fill a stocking for you.
Now to Dec. 12 • Take part in the 12 days of giving with HomeLife Glenayre Realty Chilliwack Ltd.’s Christmas Food Drive for the Salvation Army. It runs Dec. 1 to 12. Drop off your non-perishable food donations to their office at 8387 Young Rd.
