The Sardis Drumline competes in the 'premiere class' of the Fraser Valley Regional Drumline Competition at Sardis Secondary School on Friday, April 4, 2025.

All three drumlines from Sardis Secondary School finished at the top of their respective categories in a regional competition.

The Fraser Valley Regional Drumline Competition, held at Sardis Secondary, saw the local ensembles win two first-place awards and one second-place on April 4.

In the "premiere class" which is drumming and marching at an advanced level, the senior drumline placed first with a score of 90.1 for their performance of 'Welcome to Wonderland.' Their score was 12 points higher than the second-place ensemble.

In the "concert class" – where the students play the drums on stands without marching – the intermediate drumline's performance of 'Rio' took first place with a score of 82.8, while the junior drumline took second place with a score of 75.5 for their performance of 'Halftime'.

Teacher and drumline director Kris Werner said the performances were all student-driven.

"The intermediate show 'Rio' was arranged by students Colby Goosen, Charlotte Klassen, and Max Sawer. The senior drumline's show 'Welcome to Wonderland' was arranged by Thomas Mordaunt (2022 Sardis graduate). All three shows were choreographed by Kayley Hagerman (Grade 12 Sardis drumline member)," Werner said.

Next up are provincials on May 3.

"The drumlines are in a good spot to do very well at the provincials next month when they travel to Enderby, B.C. to compete."
