A six-pack of puppies rescued one year ago got together for a reunion birthday in Chilliwack recently.

On Remembrance Day last year, the Fraser Valley Regional District’s CARE (Community Animal Response and Education) Centre received a call about a litter of seven abandoned puppies.

The pups were born that cold and rainy November day, and they still had their umbilical cords attached.

“They were freezing cold,” says Jennifer Kinneman, FVRD’s manager of corporate affairs and strategic communications at the time. “Staff immediately started putting puppies inside their shirts to warm them up.”

One of the puppies didn’t survive but six did and, one year later, Piper, Poppy, Winston, Bailey, Sarge and Tank are healthy and adopted.

So the FVRD recently held a puppy party at Island 22’s off-leash dog park. Four of the six puppies were able to attend, and a good time was had by all despite the weather.

“It was so much fun to watch the puppies reconnect with each other,” said FVRD vice-chair Patricia Ross. “When they first met, you could see little sparks of recognition among them, and as they played, we got to see their different personalities emerge. I am so grateful to the staff that stepped up and volunteered their time to make sure this story had a happy ending, with six puppies in forever homes where they are loved and well-cared for.”

The FVRD said all six puppies are happy and healthy, an outcome CARE cente hopes for all of the dogs that come into its care. For more information about what it takes to offer a dog a home, call the CARE Centre at 1-844-495-CARE or email adoptadog@fvrd.ca.
