Registration is now open to apply for a food hamper as part of the annual Christmas Sharing Program in Chilliwack.
"Together, we bring hope and joy to struggling families in our community, and this year we are aiming to bless over 2,000 families," according to the Chilliwack Salvation Army.
For more than 35 years, the local Salvation Army and Chilliwack Community Services have worked together to provide families with Christmas hampers during the holiday season. The Salvation Army provides the food for a Christmas morning breakfast, lunch and dinner with all the fixings, while Chilliwack Community Services provides the toys and gifts.
Registration for the hampers opened on Nov. 18 and it goes until Friday, Dec. 13. It is open to eligible Chilliwack residents in need this Christmas season.
To apply, go to the Salvation Army Care and Share Centre at 45746 Yale Rd. Hours are: Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch); and on Saturdays (Nov 23., Nov. 30, and Dec. 7) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
What to bring: Picture ID (BC Driver’s Licence or BC ID Card) - one piece of ID for each member of your household, children included (Care Card); proof of residence in Chilliwack (utility bill, credit card statement, etc.). Those unable to resister in person can send their information, ID and a letter of consent with someone to register on their behalf.
The food hamper pickup date is Friday, Dec. 20 at Salvation Army Chilliwack Community Church (46420 Brooks Ave.). The Chilliwack Community Services toy/gift hamper pickup date and location will be announced later.
They are also accepting donations for the hampers and are looking for people to sponsor families. For more information, go to chilliwacksa.ca/christmas-sharing-2024.
