A program to help new and expecting mothers with depression and anxiety will be starting up in Chilliwack in February.

‘Being Mom’ is a 10-week group for women experiencing mental health problems during the perinatal period – the time before and after the birth of a child.

Women will have the chance to join other new/expecting mothers who are interested in learning new coping skills and strategies during the transition to parenthood. The program is aimed to help women gain self-awareness and become more attuned to their behaviour, feelings and thoughts.

The 10 weekly group sessions will be held via Zoom and start Wednesday, Feb. 24. Being Mom runs until April 28 and sessions go from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

This is a free program, but registration is required before Feb. 5.

Those interested can call the mental health centre at 604-702-4860 to inquire about the intake process and to see if there are any spaces left in the program.
