PHOTOS: Revamped Train and Hobby Show a hit in Chilliwack

Steady stream of people came out to see wood-turning demos, Lego displays, painting, collectibles and more

A newly remodelled hobby show was a hit this past weekend, according to one organizer.

There was a steady stream of people who came out to the Train and Hobby Show at Chilliwack Heritage Park where dozens of demo booths and vendors were set up on Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 19 and 20), said organizer Sharon Dueck.

After a six-year hiatus, All About Expos took on the former Mt. Cheam Lions Club Model Train and Hobby Show, and renamed it the Train and Hobby Show. The very first train show put on by the Mt. Cheam Lions Club was in September 1998 as a new way to raise funds for the community. It ran for 21 straight years with the last one taking place in 2018. By that point, members were getting older and it got to be too much work for them.

The new show had a large display of model trains, but also had a big emphasis on hobbies in general.

That weekend, people saw various hobbies being demonstrated and on display including wood-turning, quilting, painting, remote-controlled vehicles, Lego, candle-making, canning, vintage collectibles, and more.
