Sharing seeds is a great way to to try out some permaculture principles.

The Valley Permaculture Guild is hosting its fourth annual Seedy Saturday on March 9, at 10 a.m. at The Local Harvest Market.

“This free family-friendly event is an amazing opportunity to connect with a passionate and vibrant community interested in sharing local knowledge, growing tips and seeds while engaging in a traditional form of food security: seed sharing,” said organizer Rachel Symington.

Anyone interested in learning more ahead of the seed swap event is invited to attend the VPG’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, Feb. 23, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm at the Sardis Library.

The “Valley Permaculture Guild” or VPG, is a Chilliwack-based not-for-profit organization which was founded

in 2013. VPG volunteers have hosted events and programming that align with food security principles, and support community-driven sustainability.

In terms of the upcoming seed swapping event, participants will be sharing seeds and/or perusing seeds from vendors. There will be free workshops about pollinators, permaculture and gardening, and Local Harvest Market will be hosting an Organic Gardening Course.

A children’s activity corner is also planned with opportunities to register for one of the local community gardens. Coffee, snacks and lunch available to purchase.
