A bit of magic helped kickoff an annual reading club program in Chilliwack on Thursday.
A party was held July 4, marking the official start to the Fraser Valley Regional Library's Summer Reading Club, and to cap off the party was Norden the Magician (Mike Norden) of Mission.
In addition to the magic show, there were outdoor games, a bouncy castle, face painting and more.
The Summer Reading Club is a two-month-long free literacy program where children (age 0 to Grade 6), teens (Grades 7 to 12), and adults are encouraged to read every day and log their progress. It's recommended people read – or are read to – for 15 minutes each day.
People have a chance to win weekly and monthly prizes, plus grand prizes in their age category.
This year's theme is World of Curiosities.
