Free groceries for the holidays is a community project being launched by the Kindness Chain Chilliwack Association.

The non-profit group will be serving local families, seniors, and individuals in need this Christmas with their latest community project: citywide free groceries.

“Our motto for this project is that no one in Chilliwack should go hungry or worry about groceries for Christmas/Holiday season,” said KCCA coordinator Zeeshan Khan. “Everyone enjoys good food with their loved ones, so if you think you deserve free groceries and you are in need of help, we would love to help you.”

The group has consistently hosted charitable community events, from downtown cleanups, to a seniors’ appreciation barbecue, and supporting health-care workers.

There’s no financial information or proof of income required to apply for the holiday groceries, just a self-assessment tool, he said.

Once the organizers receive the request, people will be added to the list, and will be notified a week before delivery, around the second week of December.

“We will try to accommodate as many as possible.”

Requests will be filled on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last.

The charity runs on donations and volunteer labour, and is seeking donations from individuals or businesses as well as volunteer drivers.
