When Tiare Peters found out her family was going to be given a 2007 car, she called it a Christmas blessing.
Peters and her young family are the recipients of the second annual Wilma’s Transition Society car giveaway in partnership with Murray Honda.
The Peters owned a van which recently broke down.
“They had one vehicle and it died about a month ago, so this was perfect timing,” said Jayme Clifford with Wilma’s Transition Society.
About 40 nominations came in for the car giveaway. When Tiare got the call, she got very emotional.
“I burst into tears. I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
Tiare and husband Joseph have been walking everywhere for the past month with five-year-old Achilles and two-year-old Ulysses in tow.
Clifford recalled how grateful Tiare was when she told her the good news on Tuesday, Dec. 21 and how good it felt for Wilma’s and Honda to be able to give them a car.
“I said ‘We are so thankful to be able to do this for you guys,’” Clifford said. “It makes you feel so warm-hearted.”
On Wednesday, Dec. 22, the Peters family was handed the keys to their 2007 Chevrolet Optra at Murray Honda.
“It was traded in on a brand-new Honda by a local little, old lady,” said Chris Emery, general manager with Murray Honda.
Over the past few months, the dealership had been on the lookout for a car to donate to a family in need for Wilma’s car giveaway. The Optra was just what they were after – it was very well looked after and has low mileage. It’s a reliable four-cylinder car that’s good on gas, Emery added.
“It seemed like the perfect candidate for this family,” he said.
HUB International donated $1,000 towards insurance while Marlissa Frank Realty donated a trunk full of Christmas gifts for the whole family.
“It’s more than anything we could have wished for,” Tiare said, crying. “It’s an incredible blessing. I can’t be more grateful.”
