Here’s what’s coming up at the Fraser Valley Regional Library in December

Virtual events like an author visit, book sharing and more are coming up

Here’s what’s coming up at the Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL). All events are virtual. To register, go to www.fvrl.bc.ca and search under “events”

Sharing is Caring Book Share • Is there a book you are dying to tell people about? Do you have an old favourite that didn’t get the attention it deserves? Or are you just looking for a new book to read? Then join others for an evening of sharing and discussion. Come with a book to share or with an open mind. Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Virtual Author Visit: Uma Krishnaswami • Join Uma Krishnaswami for a spirited discussion of her book, Book Uncle and Me, which has been selected as a Reading Link Challenge title for 2021-22. Krishnaswami has been writing and publishing books, poems and short stories for young readers since the last century. Her story collection, The Broken Tusk, has been in print continuously for 20 years. Krishnaswami’s historical middle grade novel, Step Up to the Plate, Maria Singh, is a South Asia Award Honor Book and a Junior Library Guild pick. Her chapter book, Book Uncle and Me, is on the USBBY Outstanding International Books list. She teaches Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts and lives in Victoria, B.C. Individuals or classrooms are welcome to attend. Registration is required. This program is presented in conjunction with Surrey Public Libraries and will be hosted on Microsoft Teams. Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Cookbook Club • Calling all cooking enthusiasts! Do you love trying new recipes and sharing your cooking experiences, meal ideas, or culinary tips with others? Join FVRL staff for Cookbook Club. Each month they explore a culinary theme and at the December session, folks will be diving into a discussion of holiday treats. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Family Uke Jam • Calling all kids, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Join others for family fun time and create some musical memories together. Participants will learn about the different parts of the ukulele as well as how to hold, tune and strum. People will even learn some chords and play some songs together. Thursday, Dec. 9, from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
