The recent Helping Kids Shine Charity Golf Classic raised its highest amount ever – $32,100 – for the Fraser Valley Child Development Centre (FVCDC).

The sold-out ladies-only event was held Sept. 23 at Fraserglen Golf Course in Abbotsford and attracted 121 participants, many of whom dressed in costume.

The tournament featured a round of golf in teams of four, contests, goodies, games, a raffle, lunch, and prizes.

The FVCDC was founded in 1982 and is a fully accredited, registered charity governed by a volunteer board of directors.

The multidisciplinary team of 100 professionals care for over 3,600 children and youth with diverse abilities in the Fraser Valley each year, as well as providing support and educational training to parents/caregivers, early childhood professionals and community partners.

COVID-19 has created additional uncertainty, anxiety and stress for the children, youth and families they support. Overwhelmed even before the pandemic, now they are pushed to the breaking point.

Money raised at the golf tournament goes to directly caring for more children, youth and families through individual and group counselling programs.

The goal for next year’s event is to raise $40,000 for the FVCDC’s 40th anniversary.

The FVCDC’s head office is based in Abbotsford, with locations in Mission and Chilliwack.
