Girl Guides go back to basics with door-to-door cookie sales in Chilliwack, Agassiz

Chilliwack District Girl Guides’ cookie fundraiser will take place Sunday, Sept. 29

If you hear a knock at your door this Sunday, you should probably answer it… that is, if you like cookies.

Chilliwack District Girl Guides will be doing something they haven’t done in years — going door-to-door selling their chocolatey mint cookies for $5 a box.

Typically, the girls sell the cookies outside of several local storefronts on a Saturday, but due to other upcoming events, the date they’re having the cookies delivered and Thanksgiving, they’ve decided to go back to basics by holding a massive door-to-door event on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cookies will also be available at the Mt. Cheam Lions Club Hall and Agassiz elementary secondary school during those times.

Chilliwack District Girl Guides encompasses the north side of town including Rosedale, Agassiz, and Harrison Hot Springs. Vedder Mountain District (encompassing the south side of town) will also be selling at Canadian Tire, Fortin’s and Shoker Farms roadside stand on Sept. 29.

Girl Guides of Canada cookies are the official fundraiser for the organization and this is the only approved fundraising vehicle. The sale of cookies benefits all levels of guiding and takes place in the fall and spring.

“Maybe we will have amazing sales and continue to do it this way in the spring, or maybe we will go back to storefront,” says Shelby Kennedy, Chilliwack District Girl Guides co-commissioner.

“So many people ask us regularly why we don’t sell cookies door-to-door anymore. We’re hoping this will be a successful day for us.”

Anyone who misses the cookie sale on Sept. 29 an contact them on their Facebook page, Chilliwack District Girl Guides, or at 604-795-2392.
