Activities include a self guided tour, nature based contests and games, and tree-planting opportunities.

“I enjoy showing newcomers the property and telling them our plans because you watch people fall in love with the site in a matter of minutes,” says Isabelle Rodé, the Society’s Organic Grower/Educator. “Over time, our projects will enhance ecosystems and biodiversity, and it’s satisfying to know that everybody’s hard work will create an amazing destination for people for years to come.”

The Earth Day open house recognizes the contribution of organizations who have supported the establishment of the first phase of an Ecological Demonstration Garden at the site, including TD Canada Friends of Environment, Vancity Strategic Partnerships, and the Public Conservation Assistance Fund.

Located less than 5 km from the village of Harrison Hot Springs, the site contains a variety of habitats, a heritage farm house, and a small scale organic farm. The Miami River borders the property to the east and this year, Earthwise will be enhancing salmon and riparian habitat along the river and installing an educational Streamside and Woodland Trail, with support from TD Friends of Environment.

Want to get involved? This is a great time to become part of the Earthwise team. Volunteer information and sign up sheets will be available at the event, and all volunteers who sign up at the open house will receive a free native plant.
