It's already been a busy month in Chilliwack, with a number of environmentally focused events taking place.
There was an Adopt-A-River cleanup on April 5 at Thompson Regional Park, the Rotary Climate Fair April 12 and 13, and there is an upcoming annual large item pick-up event (registration is now closed).
But with Earth Day officially celebrated on April 22, there are a few more ways to dig in and help local conservation efforts.
BioCentral at Parr Road Green Depot is offering 40 per cent off discount on all bagged products (compost, topsoil, and mulch) , and 10 per cent off on bulk products (compost, topsoil, and mulch) on April 22.
You can also recycle your scrap metal for free at the Bailey Landfill for the month of April. The landfill can be very busy at times (particularly on weekends), but traffic cameras are available on the Bailey Landfill webpage to help residents plan their visits.
The Chilliwack Library is hosting the Film Club's 'Losing Blue' – Earth Day Screening and Creative Expression Event on April 22 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. 'Losing Blue' is a 23-minute short film from the National Film Board of Canada about the impact of climate change on mountain lakes. Afterward, join a 'fluid form art therapy' activity to express thoughts creatively. This event is open to adults 19 and older, with refreshments provided. Online registration required.
Also at the Chilliwack Library, Earth Day Trivia runs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. People can test their knowledge on environmental facts, sustainability, and conservation. Compete with a team up to four members, learn something new, and celebrate the planet in a fun, interactive way. For ages 19 and older. Online registration required.
And April is a great month to go through your house and garage and find things to sell in the City-Wide Garage Sale, coming up on Saturday, May 10. Find more information at chilliwack.com.
