A classic coming-of-age movie about five teens in detention will be screened in Chilliwack as part of a fundraiser for local youth.
The Chilliwack Youth Health Centre will present 1985 film The Breakfast Club for its movie night fundraiser on June 25 at Cottonwood 4 Cinemas.
The movie follows students from five different cliques who describe themselves as "a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal" while they serve detention at high school. Despite their differences, they eventually open up and connect with each other as the day progresses. Written, produced and directed by John Hughes, it is widely regarded as one of the greatest teen films ever made.
Tickets are $20, which includes admission, a drink and popcorn. People also have the option to buy and donate a ticket to a youth. A portion of the ticket price supports Chilliwack Youth Health Centre, and their fundraising goal is to raise $2,500.
Chilliwack Youth Health Centre provides free, confidential medical, mental health, and social services to youth and young adults aged 12 to 26.
