A Chilliwack woman who’s organizing Christmas hampers for flood and landslide victims is putting the call out to the community for donations.
Leah Hemstreet is the co-ordinator of BC Flood Christmas Hamper Program and she’s looking for ready-made gift basket donations of food, toys, pet items and more.
“Non-perishable food basket donations are being accepted until Dec. 18 to provide Christmas hampers to local families who have been significantly impacted by the recent flooding and landslides,” Hemstreet said.
She, along with a team of about 10 other people throughout Chilliwack and beyond are collecting the donations on behalf of the program.
They’re asking for folks to donate food baskets/boxes that are wrapped and ready-to-gift. They’re also accepting gifts for children up to the age of 12 (must be wrapped and labelled with child’s age and gender) and gift cards for children 13 to 18. Pet food and meals in a box are also welcome.
There are several ways to donate to the BC Flood Christmas Hamper Program. On Facebook, people can go to BC Flood - Christmas Hamper - Chilliwack Team and find a team leader in their area.
Those not on Facebook can contact Leah Hemstreet at 604-845-9542 or email InspiredChanges@gmail.com, or contact Allena May Collie at 604-378-2056 to arrange drop-off or pick-up. Additionally, folks can drop items off to Allena May Collie at Calendar Club located in Cottonwood Centre.
Donations are being accepted until Saturday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m.
