Chilliwack teens have a fresh chance to be chill, thanks to a unique partnership that’s been bringing yoga to youth for the past few years.

Be Chill is a program offered at Studio B Yoga & More, with the help of the Chilliwack Restorative Justice and Youth Advocacy Association. Their fifth round of sessions is about to start, and they are looking for a few more teens to fill the program numbers.

The purpose of the program is to engage and empower youth in learning sessions and activities focused on leading a balanced, mindful and healthy lifestyle. The foundations and values of yoga have been incorporated into the lifeskills, to create the series. The series is lead by a yoga instructor and a restorative justice facilitator. In one week, the group will focus on yoga and in the second, they will learn alternating skills such as nutrition, balance, respect, honesty, integrity and discipline.

Each week includes a healthy snack, discussion time, and a safe environment surrounded by an enthusiastic team.

There is no cost, and the program is open to both boys and girls, ages 13 to 15. It’s a pre-registered, eight-week program, with no drop ins available. Participants will meet every Monday at the yoga studio in Garrison Village, after school beginning Jan. 15.

To apply to be a Be Chill participant, visit Studio B Yoga online or call 604-846-5225.

GIRLVANA

Studio B Yoga also offers a program called Girlvana, designed to offer the benefits of yoga, mediation, real conversations, and mindfulness to teen girls while providing mentorship with a raw and heartfelt approach.

The program uses interactive games, journaling, check-in questions and guided meditation at the beginning and end of the class as a way to facilitate open, honest, real dialogue centered around issues many teen girls face today.

Classes are light hearted and set to music offering girls a place to connect from a place of love and understanding in and encouraging and engaging atmosphere. To create a sense of community and connection other activities like crafting, time in nature, open conversations, and activities as a group will also be incorporated. There is a cost for this program, however thre are scholarships available for girls ages 13 to 18 to join the program for free.
