Oct. 1 is National Seniors Day and one Chilliwack organization has returned to offering in-person events for seniors.
The Compassionate Neighbourhood Health Partners Society (CNHPS) has a handful of in-person programs and virtual get-togethers for seniors, plus support groups for caregivers.
Intergenerational is one of the in-person events that has recently started up. It’s a program where a senior and a youth (age 15 to 29) are matched together and then spend time with one another twice a month. There are also weekly virtual Intergenerational meet-ups.
Intergenerational in-person events run every second and fourth Monday of the month. Seniors and youth will do a mix of activities and they can also just sit and chat. The virtual Intergenerational connections run on a weekly basis. Youth receive volunteer hours for taking part in Intergenerational.

The Senior Connect Café meetings are in-person and indoors again. They take place every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., twice in Sardis and the remainder in Chilliwack. It includes a free coffee and tea, plus a monthly free lunch provided by Better at Home in partnership with CNHPS. New seniors are welcome. They also provide transport support for seniors who don’t drive.

For those caregiving for a senior, there is support for them as well. The Family Caregiver Support Group meets every Thursday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Those who cannot attend during those hours, beginning Nov. 1 CNHPS is looking to hold monthly evening meetings on the first Monday of each month.
For all in-person events, people need to be full immunized against the COVID-19 virus and must be willing to wear a mask. A six-month commitment is requested.
CNHPS is also looking for volunteers of all ages.
