People are invited to wander through stunning private gardens during an upcoming Rotary fundraiser in Chilliwack.
The Rotary Club of Chilliwack is hosting its Garden Tour 2024, marking 20 years of self-guided tours on Saturday, June 22. This year, the event will feature eight gardens, most of which are private, plus a few commercial. Five gardens are in Chilliwack while the other three are in Agassiz.
"I refer to the Garden Tour as 'the great garden snoop' because our tourists get the opportunity to discover planting ideas that they can then ‘transplant’ into their own gardens," said Rotarian Doug Wickers, one of the event organizers.
Monies raised go to support the many projects that the 90-year-old service club has done, and is doing, both here in the community and abroad including: scholarships, Vedder Trail projects, food hampers for school children, climate action projects and more.
The event brought in $5,000 last year. Wickers calls it a "modest" fundraiser but added that it has become a well-loved service project.
"I am questioned year-round by locals asking when the next Garden Tour will be because it is valued as a significant highlight of their yearly events."
The Rotary Club of Chilliwack Garden Tour 2024 is Saturday, June 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at various locations in Chilliwack. Tickets are $25 and available at Minter Country Garden, Fortin’s Home Hardware (Vedder and Chilliwack locations), Hofstede’s, and Little Mountain Greenhouse or online at chilliwackrotary.com. Maps will be provided to people when they purchase a ticket.
