Rotary Club of Chilliwack Afterhours members have launched a fundraiser to spoil some local moms this season.

They are busy working on their annual Christmas Purse Campaign for Ruth & Naomi’s Mission Family Centre.

“We wanted to support the moms who often get forgotten in the bustle of Christmas,” said Shannon Baird, treasurer of the Rotary Club.

Over the past couple of years, the group has partnered with RAN whose Family Centre houses families in transition.

The purse campaign has evolved from simply offering a gift bag, to club members filling a medium/large new or slightly used purse filled with goodies aimed at spoiling the recipient.

The club first assembled 15 gift bags for women in transitional housing in 2018.

This year they are aiming to fill 38 purses with thoughtful items so that every mother living in the centre receives a gift.

“This is a lofty goal for our little club. We really depend on donated items to make this happen,” noted Shannon Babcock, public affairs director.

The two Shannons, who spearhead this project are graciously accepting purses, cash donations or items to fill the purses. “We really want every mom to feel spoiled with the contents of their purses,” says Baird.

Anyone wishing to donate either purses or content items can contact either organizer at shannonbsells@gmail.com or Shannonbairdrotary@gmail.com. Dropoff location during business hours is at Century 21 Creekside Realty at #190-45428 Luckakuck Way in Sardis.
