Chilliwack Community Services raises over $82,000 with Kentucky Derby-themed event

Bell Creek Arena on Fairfield Island hosted this year's Secret Soirée fundraiser

This year's Secret Soirée for Chilliwack Community Services turned over more than $82,000 to be used for programs and services.

The annual event was held at Bell Creek Arena this year, although the location was kept a secret to guests until the very final moments. They gathered at Frankie's Italian Restaurant on May 3, before hopping aboard chartered buses to be whisked away to the final destination.

Bell Creek Arena on Fairfield Island was the perfect backdrop, as the theme this year was the Kentucky Derby — held the same day at Churchill Downs. Guests dressed in traditional Kentuck Derby wear, from flowery dresses and oversized hats to jockey costumers. They mingled in the arena and at the end of the evening, danced to live music by Mood Therapy.

A number of games and a live auction, called by Ken Pearson, allowed for some donations. Kate Healy, executive director of Chilliwack Community Services, said the money raised will help fund "vital" programs that serve individuals and families in the community.

"We’re deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making the evening such a success," she said in a May 22 email to guests, volunteers and sponsors.

"Thank you again for your continued support of CCS and the work we do together in the community," she said. "I’m truly grateful for your commitment, generosity, and belief in our mission."

The next big fundraising event for Chilliwack Community Services is the Tour de Chwk, a run bike race on June 7. For more information, visit comserv.bc.ca
