By-donation garbage pickup for large items returns to Chilliwack

3 local non-profit organizations will be hauling away junk in October as part of fall cleanup

Chilliwack residents who have large items that belong in the trash can get their bulky garbage hauled away in October as part of a by-donation fall cleanup program.

Starting Oct. 1, people can register for the City of Chilliwack's Residential Large Item Pick Up program where three local non-profit organizations will haul junk away from residences for a monetary donation.

There are three areas and a different non-profit will be collecting in each area.

Registration is from Tuesday, Oct. 1 to Monday, Oct. 14, and pickups will be scheduled from Tuesday, Oct. 15 to Thursday, Oct. 31.

To register, residents can refer to the map above to locate their street and area and contact the corresponding organization.

Residents need to provide detailed contact information, including their phone number and address, to schedule pickups. People are asked to discuss their donation with the non-profit group prior to loading to avoid miscommunication. Items need to be placed at the street side or curb for pick up.

The minimum suggested donation is $40 per pickup/truck load.

NOTE: Restrictions apply for the pickup of building materials due to the potential for some materials to contain asbestos. To ensure safety and compliance with the landfill requirements and provincial regulations, these groups will not accept any building materials in the loads they pick up. Those wanting to dispose of building materials can visit the Bailey Sanitary Landfill website for more information.
