Family forts, journalling and more events coming up at Chilliwack library

More virtual events added to October library list in Chilliwack

Below is a list of virtual programs being offered by the Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL).

Storytime • Children and caregivers will enjoy interactive stories, songs, rhymes and more. Mondays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Babytime • Enjoy bouncing, singing and rhyming with stories. Babytime is a fun, social bonding activity for babies and caregivers. This program is best suited to children ages 0 to 2. Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Turnt Tursdays • FVRL staff will pick the book and read the first chapter - ONLY - and you will listen, doodle your thoughts down, comment and show off your artwork (only if you like). Fun doodle sheets will be sent to participants by email before each session. For teens in Grade 7 and up. Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Poetry Cafe • Come prepared to recite an original poem you have crafted, share a poem from a favourite poet, or come to listen and enjoy. Wednesday, Oct. 6 and Thursday, Oct. 21 from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Reading Spotlight • Library staff will share their current favourite reads. If you have a book or two you’d like to tell the group about, they’d love to hear it. All genres welcome. Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Among Us • Launch into space with your fellow crew mates and help sniff out the impostors. Play Among Us with teens across the Fraser Valley on Zoom. Ages 13-18. Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Art Show & Tell • Come prepared to share and discuss one of your art creations (painting, pastel, sculpture, cross-stitch art, etc.). Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Cookbook Club • At the October Cookbook Club session, folks will be diving into a discussion of potluck meals. Come prepared to share your favourite potluck recipes, cookbooks, magazines, or websites with the group. Thursday, Oct. 14 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Afternoon Book Club • Join fellow readers in a discussion of timely, topical and noteworthy works of fiction and non-fiction. Thursday, Oct. 19 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Sphero Challenge: Speed Coding • Coding tasks will be given to contestants (e.g. making your Sphero change colour from red to green), and points will be awarded based on the speed at which each task is completed. Thursday, Oct. 19 from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Crafty Creations: Bind your own Journal • In this introductory workshop we’ll be getting crafty with the help of Creativebug. You’ll need a needle and elastic cord, leather or felt for the cover, paper, and any art supplies of your choice. Suitable for ages 13 and older. Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Family Forts • Wear your Halloween costume and join us in your cozy fort, bring your family’s favourite reads. We’ll show off our forts and have some fun reading together. Friday, Oct. 22 from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
