UFV women fall to Lancers in clash of titans

The University of the Fraser Valley women's basketball team faced one of the top teams in Canada, taking on the Windsor Lancers.

The UFV Cascades women’s basketball went 1-2 at the Lancers Holiday Classic, held in Windsor, Ontario.

The Cascades, ranked seventh nationally, tipped off against the host Lancers and University of Guelph Gryphons.

UFV lost their opener Dec. 28, falling 66-39 to Windsor.

The Lancers pulled away with a 17-2 second quarter run and forced the Cascades to commit 24 turnovers.

UFV bounced back with a dominant 82-66 win over the Gryphons.  Leading 23-7 after one quarter, the Cascades watched Guelph whittle the lead down to nine. But Chilliwack’s Kayli Sartori answered back with seven straight points to put the game away.

UFV’s final game was a rematch with Windsor Dec. 30.

The final score favoured the Lancers 63-43, but the Cascades put up a formidable fight.

UFV gets back to regular season Canada West action Jan. 10, visiting the University of Winnipeg.
