Tenth anniversary for trail race

Special prizes and events are planned for the 10th running of the Around the Lake Give'R Take 30 kilometre trail race in October.

Trail runners are counting the days to the 10th running of the Around the Lake Give’R Take 30 race, taking place this year on Oct. 13.

The annual race circles Cultus Lake, the course providing a balance between knarley technical single track, contoured Provincial Park trail and fast road running.

Race Director Heather Hibberson has made contact with several past champions, both male and female, offering them an invite to this year’s race.

Nicola Gildersleeve, Sara Elias and  Brendan Wirtz have confirmed their attendance. Three time winner Matt Spies remains undecided as does 2003 winner and record holder William Emmerson, whose time of 2:10.32 is the gold standard.

“I wanted the volunteers, spectators and runners to rub shoulders with the best of the best,” Hibberson said.

This year’s winners will receive a special prize, a 10th anniversary ‘Forest Spirit Walking Stick’ hand carved by local artist Rick den Braber.

A special 10th anniversary race medal has been struck and will be presented to the first, second and third place winners in all categories.

All participants will receive a  commemorative race hoodie with the cost being covered by the entry fee.
