Rugby Crusaders crush Bruins

Lozz Davies had a pair of tries as the Chilliwack Crusaders shut out the Ridge Meadows Bruins in senior men's rugby action last weekend.

The Chilliwack Crusaders earned their second win of the senior men’s rugby spring schedule Saturday, blanking the Ridge Meadows Bruins 19-0 at Sardis secondary school.

The Crusaders got off to a strong start, opening the scoring when Lozz Davies broke through the defensive line.

Pat Gallagher provided good support on the play, but the Crusaders failed to convert the try.

Strong play by Chris Veenstra earned him forward of the match honours, and it was a Veenstra run setting up another Davies try just before half-time.

This convert was successful, sending Chilliwack to the break with a 12-0 lead.

The Bruins upped their physical play in the second half, crashing into Crusaders at every opportunity.

Ridge Meadows came close to scoring a couple times, only to be pushed back by the Crusader line.

With the clock ticking down, Andrew Zimmer caught a nice ball from Brian Harding and ran in for the final Chilliwack try.

The convert wrapped up the scoring.

Beck Forman and Jordan Aleck-Kiahu were unsung heroes, with hard running and sure tackling.

Nick Hyde was the back of the match, using slick footwork to punch holes in the Ridge Meadows D.

After the Easter break, the Crusaders return to action April 14, taking on Capilano in the final game of the season.

Chilliwack has two wins and five losses thus far.
