North Vancouver’s Bryn Parry successfully defended his title at the Chilliwack Men’s Open golf tournament, held last weekend at the Chilliwack Golf Club.
Parry scorched his way through the two-round tournament, firing a nine-under-par 135 to beat runner-up Matt Makinson (Vancouver Golf Club) by three strokes.
Parry birdied eight of 18 holes in Saturday’s opening round, carrying a three shot lead into Sunday. He cooled off slightly in the round two, but did enough to hold off Makinson and 38 other professionals for the title.
Kerry Grittner (CGC) competed on the amateur side, but finished fourth overall in the entire field with a five-under-par 139.
He tied Parry for the best opening round, carding birdies on seven holes, with no bogeys.
Chad McAdie was the next best local.
Representing the CGC, he fired a two-under-par 142 and tied for ninth.
Royalwood’s Galen Johnston tied for 14th with Jared Rembel (CGC), each of them carding even-par 144s.
Colin Holding (CGC), Curtis Baldwin (The Falls), Lyle Brown (CGC) and Michael McGimpsey finished in a four way tie for 27th.
Nigel Sinnott (CGC) and Joel McCall (CGC) tied for 35th.
Danny Hebert (CGC) snuck into the top 50 with an eight-over-par 152 that left him tied for 41st.
