Feisty Falcons fly into Fraser Valley playoffs

The Sardis Falcons take on the Fleetwood Park Dragons in the first game of the Fraser Valley Championships.

The Sardis secondary school senior boys basketball team enters this week’s Fraser Valley Championships as the 12th seed, opening Wednesday on the road against the 24th seeded Fleetwood Park Dragons.

The Falcons pulled off a big win over Maple Ridge (ranked 15th provincially) in last weekend’s Fraser Valley seeding tournament. They advanced to the semi-finals where they fell to Langley’s Walnut Grove.

Sardis finished the weekend with a 79-64 loss to Abbotsford’s Yale Lions in the third/fourth game on Saturday. Hayden Lejeune led the Falcons  against Yale with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Jason Kroeker scored a season high 14 points filling in for Logan Rogers, who has suffered a season-ending injury. Sardis will miss Logan’s leadership and productivity when they take on the Dragons.

That game is a win-or-go-home scenario. If Sardis prevails, they move to the round of 16, which is a double-knockout format.
