Chilliwack Spartan swimmers qualify for Team B.C.

Ten Chilliwack Spartan swimmers traveled to Calgary Apr. 20-23 for the Speedo Western Canadian Championships.

More than 500 of the top swimmers from the 13-17 age group attended.

The meet was used as a Canada Games qualifier by Swim B.C., and three Spartans made the cut for the 24 person squad that will compete in Winnipeg this summer.

Myles Wheeler led the way with a pair of bronze medals, finishing third in the 200 metre breaststroke and 400m individual medley. Wheeler was sixth in the 100m breaststroke, seventh in the 1500m freestyle and 12th in the 400m freestyle.

Another Team B.C. qualifier, Haley Klenk bagged bronze in the 200m backstroke, finishing fifth in the 100m backstroke and 12th in the 100m fly.

The third Spartan to qualify for Team B.C. was Sheigh Gaudette, who pushed her way to a fourth place finish in the 100m breaststroke and an eighth place finish in the 200m breaststroke.

Anna Dumont-Belanger had a strong meet placing fifth in the 400m freestyle, tenth in the 200m IM, eleventh in the 400m IM and thirteenth in the 800m freestyle.

Nolan Paul managed a seventh place finish in the 200m butterfly.

Wyatt Hine placed eleventh in the 200m breaststroke and sixteenth in the 100m breaststroke.

Brooke Kienas swam to tenth in the 200m fly and twelfth in the 100m fly.

Klenk, Dumont-Belanger, Kienas and Kara Wismer produced a bronze medal in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay.
