Chiefs bowling for kids

The BCHL Chilliwack Chiefs are involved in Bowl for Kids Sake 2012, an initiative of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley is teaming up with the Chilliwack Chiefs and Scotiabank to host the kickoff to one of their most important fundraisers.

Coaches, players and billet families from the local junior A hockey team will join local big and little brothers and sisters at Chilliwbowl Lanes (45916 Wellington Ave) for a special night launching Bowl for Kids Sake 2012.

This is a free event and all are welcome to participate or support.

“The Chiefs continue to try hard to give back to the community as best they can, particularly where families are concerned, and BBBS is a huge part of the community,” said Chilliwack Chiefs marketing director Barry Douglas.

This is the 23rd year for the annual event that officially starts Feb. 22 at Chillibowl Lanes.

That will be first of more than 20 sessions throughout the region, concluding Mar. 21 in Abbotsford.

“The money raised through these sessions helps to support families and kids in the community,” said BBBSFV event coordinator Janis Mitchell. “It allows us to continue growing programs that are just starting to boom, like the in-school mentoring program and our Go Girls! program.”

Bowl for Kids Sake raised more than $80,000 last year.

“Scotiabank is a long time supporter of BBBSFV and we’re excited about an opportunity to involve the Bigs and Littles and for them to mingle with the Chiefs players,” said John Hayhow, manager of the Scotiabank downtown branch.”

BBBSFV serves families in Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Agassiz, Hope, Mission, Maple Ridge, and Pitt Meadows.
