Chilliwack’s junior bantam teams clashed in an all-local minor football matchup last weekend.

In an exciting game, the Blue Giants beat the Red Giants 27-6. Warren Rogers led the defensive charge for the Blue Giants, with help from Aydan Harvey, Miguel Wood and rookie defensive back Jordan Hayward.

On offence, the Blue Giants got two touchdowns from Emilo Pineda and one eachfrom Tynan Ackah-Sanzah and rookie wide out Brody Van Velze. The Van Velze major came off a great pass from quarterback Gabe Olivares.

— Chilliwack’s peewee Blue Giants picked up their first win of the season, eeking out a 19-12 win over the Chilliwack Red Giants.

Kurtis Flynn got the first Blue Giants major off a toss from quarterback Hudson Harvey.  Flynn couldn’t find a hole going one way, so he reversed field and scampered down the sideline.

Still, the Blue Giants trailed 12-6 in the closing minutes of the first half.

Harvey got his team even at the break, bulling his way up the middle, Jim Brown style, for the touchdown.

Punter Tommy Helget put his team up for good early in the second half, booting a ball into the endzone for a single.

Trei Lindstrom made the tackle.

Flynn added the insurance in the fourth quarter, getting his second TD of the game. Led by Taylor Fleming, the offensive line delivered great blocking.

The defensive line gave the Red Giants nowhere to run, led by  Heleman Ochoa and Noah Kling.

The Blue Giants play the Mission 9’ers at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Townsend Park.

— Chilliwack’s atom White squad played against Mission, losing 36-12. The locals played without a handful of key players, but still came up with some memorable plays.

On the first snap from scrimmage, quarterback Mateo Tuioti hooked up with wideout Logan Buchwitz on a 20 yard completion for a touchdown.

Turnovers were the story, with Mission turning Chilliwack mistakes into 28 unanswered points.

Chilliwack’s second touchdown came when backup quarterback Nick Beck handed the ball to wideout Joshua Caverly. The speedster rambled 90 yards for the major.

Buchwitz was named the White Giants offensive player of the game while Ethan Long earned defensive honours.

The locals face Abbotsford this weekend.

— The CMF Flag division had another exciting weekend.

No one keeps score at that level, but there were lots of touchdowns.

The Abbotsford Falcons visit this weekend, playing the Royal Blue team. The other four teams (Navy, Red, White and Black) play each other.
