Birdies keep Clapp close

Chilliwack's Brad Clapp is among the top competitors on the Vancouver Golf Tour.

Chilliwack Golf and Country Club’s Brad Clapp finished in a tie for third place at the latest Vancouver Golf Tour stop.

Clapp teed off at the Sandpiper Spring Classic, held at the picturesque Sandpiper Golf Resort in Harrison Mills.

Clapp birdied three of the first five holes, but bogeyed the seventh and 10th holes en-route to a four-under-par finish. Clapp was just two shots behind overall leader Ryan Williams, who was on fire down the back-stretch, carding six birdies on the final nine holes.

The professional division included 37 players.

Clapp earned $650 for his result, along with 900 Order of Merit points.

Clapp is sixth overall in the OOM standings through April 15. His 1300 points leave him 1,236 behind Williams for the overall lead.

The next VGT event is the Nickel Heating Open, taking place Thursday at Kings Links by the Sea in Delta.
