Gold for Gagnon

Alex Gagnon was as good as gold at the B.C. Summer Games last weekend, bringing home a first place finish in equestrian jumping.

Gagnon edged out a pair of Vancouver Island athletes, Victoria’s Ali Ramsay (second) and Shelby Clark (third) in the second jumping event.

Chilliwack native Gabriel Marshalok scored himself a gold medal in the boys 4x100 relay, joining Zone 3 teammates Brennan Gademans (Langley), Mark Whiteley (Surrey) and Tunji Taylor-Lewis (Port Coquitlam) on the podium.

Yannick Janssens was part of the Zone 3 girls team that took silver in the girls 4x100 relay, finishing second to Fraser River Delta.

Ryan Petkau, Josh Ens, Jason Kroeker, Shaun Clark, Logan Jantzen and Joseph Sztuhar were members of the Zone 3 boys softball team that finished in second place, losing to Zone 7 North West in the final.

Chilliwack’s Susanne Dyson coached the Zone 3 girls softball team to a gold medal, dispatching Fraser River Delta in the final.

Kaitlyn McDonald picked up two bronze medals, placing third in the BMX female time trial and BMX female points race.

All told, the Zone 3 team finished second overall at the games with 113 medals — 40 gold, 34 silver and 39 bronze.

Vancouver Island-Central Coast finished first overall with 137 medals — 56 gold, 41 silver and 40 bronze.
