The final rounds of the Gente Bella BC Motocross Championship go this weekend, with two days of racing on the newly-constructed outdoor track behind the big red buildings at Chilliwack's Heritage Park.

For over a decade Heritage Park has hosted indoor Arenacross motorcycle racing, but this will be the first time outdoor racing has been held on site. Originally slated to be a one-day event on Sunday, an additional round was added on Saturday to replace an April 21 postponement due to track flooding.

Since then, the track has been thoroughly drained and the elevation has been raised to fix the problem.

Heppner Trucking, Ironside Design and Manufacturing, Brandt Tractor and The Big Steel Box company helped with the work.

The brand new 10-round series kicked off March 17 at Ashcroft’s Eagle Motoplex, with the Mission Raceway, West Shore MX Park (Victoria), Bear Creak Motocross facility (Kelowna) and Whispering Pines (Kamloops) also hosting rounds in April and May.

"The series has been a big success so far and it will be great to be concluding the championship and crowning the champions in our home town this weekend,” said Chilliwack-based series organizer and Future West spokesman Jamie Hellam. “We have witnessed some great racing and a large number of riders taking part in this new series. The new track will be great for spectators with bleacher seating and ample parking trackside for those wanting to set up lawn chairs.”

Tickets are available at the gate. The price is $10, with children 12 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Practice runs start at 9 a.m. with racing starting at 10 a.m.
