Wheeler wins in the water
Chilliwack Spartan swimmers brought home nine medals from the AA provincial championships, held in Surrey last weekend.
Myles Wheeler (11-and-under boys) led the way for the locals, picking up one gold and three silver while achieving the AAA standard in four events. Wheeler got gold in the 100 metre breaststroke, adding seconds in the 200m breaststroke, 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley.
Wheeler qualified for the AAA provincial championship, taking place Feb. 28 to Mar. 3 in Victoria.
Anna Dumond-Belanger (11-and-under girls) scored silver in the 800m freestyle, finishing fourth in the 400m individual medley and ninth in the 400m freestyle.
Nadia Strelioff (14-year-old girls) fought her way to silver in the 200m breaststroke, placing sixth in the 100m breaststroke and eighth in the 200m backstroke. In the same division, Brooke Kienas earned bronze in the 200m individual medley. She finished fourth in the 100m breaststroke, fifth in the 100m freestyle and sixth in the 200m breaststroke.
Still in that division, Jordyn Hryciw placed 11th in the 200m breaststroke, earning personal best times in three races.
In the 15-and-over girls division, Sydney Torok won silver in the 800m freestyle and bronze in the 400m freestyle.
In the 15-and-over boys division, Eduard Stanciu placed fourth in the 400m freestyle and eighth in the 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 400m individual medley.
